Synopsis
Five 25-minute programmes, each on an individual author, looking at one or more substantial texts and exploring the different ways in such works are written. Authors are Sylvia Plath (autobiography in selected poems), Dylan Thomas (the language of ‘Under Milk Wood’ and selected poems), Charles Dickens (filmic and musical interpretations of ‘Oliver Twist’), Maya Angelou (in performance and as autobiographer of ‘I know why the caged bird sings’), and Nadine Gordimer (the place and time of ‘July’s people’).
