Several features of net design affect the openness of meshes in cod-ends. Demonstrates the latest ideas to improve escape, including square mesh windows, semi-rigid grids, roped cod-ends, short extensions and narrow cod-ends. Some of these ideas have been introduced into fisheries regulations and all are practical.
