Synopsis
Ordinary British people recall the critical months starting in May 1940 when Britain faced the threat of Nazi Germany. In four parts: 1) up to the Dunkirk evacuation, showing Chruchill at work and Thora Hird recalling the arrival of the first official telegrams breaking bad news; 2) the summer months between the Fall of France and the Battle of Britain; 3) the Battle of Britain. Includes Bess Comming’s story of surviving being torpeodoed while crossing the Atlantic; 4) how British soldiers and civilians responded to Germany’s increased attack in 1940 - night bombng, U-boats and air attacks.
