Fine Structure of the Living Cell, The: A Re-Examination

Synopsis
After a brief historical review, it is shown from observations on living cells and by geometrical considerations that the double line appearance of most membranes, as well as the endoplasmic reticulum, the Golgi body, the nuclear pores and the cristea of the mitochondria must be artefacts. Explanations are offered for their appearance.
