Fight to Be Male, The

Synopsis
Looks at scientific work in the 1970s in the area of human sex determination. Notes that a single protein, the HY antigen, is solely responsible for building male organs, and if it is destroyed, the material re-forms into female organs. Without a supply of testosterone at the proper times, a foetus reverts to female forms at every stage in its growth, including brain development, implying that male and female brains may be physically different. Evidence is derived from babies of indeterminate sexuality. A discovery of young girls in a Caribbean village who became young men at puberty raises further questions.
