Synopsis
1 (1983): Shows that although illegal, about 90% of women in Khartoum, Sudan, undergo circumcision, often without anaesthetic. The programme ed to an Act of Parliament making the practice illegal in Britain.
2 (1991): Reveals that the practice of genital mutilation of young girls is still flourishing in Britain today and even increased in several communities. Although a taboo subject, young teenagers tell of the unbearable pain, and a group of older Somali women in London talk frankly about how most of them want to continue to circumcise their daughters even though the practice is illegal.
