Fall of Athens, The: The Peloponesian War

Synopsis
Extracts from the writings of Thucydides are used to look at the causes and effects of the Peloponesian war. By the late 5th century BC Greece had become crowded with prosperous cities all striving for leadership and arecognition. Greek society at this time was still largely motivated by a warrior code of ethics which saw war as a noble way to settle disputes, and this, combined with a fierce civic pride, was an explosive mixture.
