Factory of the Future

Synopsis
Opens with clips from Fritz Lang’s METROPOLIS. Outlines changes in manufacturing organisation from the beginnings of industrialisation from Henry Ford and Taylorism, to the present day and the ‘human-centered’ approach. Instead of using the technology to replace human skills, the technology becomes a tool to bring together the work of design, production, management and machine operation. Professor Mike Cooley argues that only human skills can provide flexibility and advocated a ‘human centred’ approach to manufacturing.
