Factory of the Future
- Synopsis
- Opens with clips from Fritz Lang’s METROPOLIS. Outlines changes in manufacturing organisation from the beginnings of industrialisation from Henry Ford and Taylorism, to the present day and the ‘human-centered’ approach. Instead of using the technology to replace human skills, the technology becomes a tool to bring together the work of design, production, management and machine operation. Professor Mike Cooley argues that only human skills can provide flexibility and advocated a ‘human centred’ approach to manufacturing.
