Exploring Sandro Botticelli’s ‘Mystic Nativity’

Synopsis
Examines Sandro Botticelli’s ‘Mystic Nativity’, painted in Florence in 1500, using high-resolution imaging to reveal its complex and fascinating layers of meaning. Botticelli’s vision of universal peace was produced at a time of religious and political turmoil, of apocalyptic foreboding, and of hopes and anxieties at the turn of the half-millennium. Images from the National Gallery, together with paintings, drawings and prints from elsewhere, are combined with text, graphics, video and music.
