Excavating the House
- Synopsis
- Rachel Whiteread’s ‘House’ drew praise and criticism in equal measure and became the focus for much ribaldry in the media - focusing on the sense of outrage of local inhabitants and the waste of public expenditure that House represented. This discussion with Doreen Massey, James Lingwood, Mark Cousins and Jon Bird considers the uncanny attributes of ‘House’ in relation to architecture, aesthetics, geography and contemporary social problems such as homelessness.
