Europe of the Regions?, A

Synopsis
Looks at the way in which the expansion of the European Community is reshaping political processes. New relationships are developing between Europe and particular cities and regions. The programme features two cities: Sheffield in South Yorkshire and Lille in the Nord/Pas de Calais region of France. It looks at how these cities are developing new relationships with an ever-expanding Europe. Sheffield has set up an office to deal entirely with European funding. We see how people in that office relate to the European Commission in Brussels. Bruce Millan, a European Commissioner, explains the role of the Commission and the way relationships with European regions are changing. Discusses some of the similarities and contrasts in the way that Lille relates to Brussels. Also shows how cross-frontier cooperation is becoming a common and key factor in European funding for projects.

Notes
NB. As of May 2016 Open University Worldwide are no longer distributing DVDs. They have posted this message on their website: ‘Unfortunately Open University Worldwide Limited has decided that product sales are no longer viable given the reduced funding to Higher Education institutions and diminishing demand for the products we have traditionally stocked. At present the Open University Students Association (OUSA) will continue to sell the "Good Study Guide", and we are in discussion with other possible distributors to continue to make The Open University’s products available for purchase. As soon as we have any information on other channels of distribution we will update this notice’. Some products are still available via second hand dealers on Amazon.co.uk
