Alternative title
Restless Eye,the : EugÈne Delacroix: A Film Based on His Paintings and His Journals
Synopsis
A dramatized biography of French painter Eugène Delacroix (1798-1863), based primarily on his journals and the insights into his artistic and psychological contradictions which they provide. Traces Delacroix’s development from the time of his first Salon exhibit with ‘Dante and Vergil in Hell’ (1822), placing him in the context of the political upheavals of the time. Also describes the reaction to his later and much scorned paintings.
