Etna Brickworks

Synopsis
Etna Brickworks in West Lothian was opened in 1880 and for over a century produced refractories and common building bricks using a method that remained largely unchanged. In addition to the 28-chamber kiln used for firing, the brickworks had two Hoffman continuous kilns which had become unique in Scotland and possibly all of Britain. They were demolished shortly after filming. Shows the manufacture of common building bricks from basic raw materials through the various stages of crushing, mixing, grinding, pressing and firing.
