Alzheimer’s: The Home Carer

Synopsis
Provides an insight into how one carer in his 70s came to terms with the Alzheimer’s disease affecting his wife. Mavis Nicholson talks with her sister about caring for and eventually being unable to cope with their mother, and how deeply this affected her. The programme shows the need of many carers, particularly spouses, to remain in closest contact with the sufferer for as long as possible and how a positive attitude, love and humour can help when accompanied by all-important moral and practical support from fellow carers, home help and respite care. Also voices the feelings of those no longer able to cope and the frequent need for counselling and support when this happens.
