England’s Oldest Borough

Synopsis
The building of a new downstream bridge in Barnstaple, Devon, changes the landscape of one of the oldest boroughs in England. Interviews with owners of the town’s family businesses describe how these changes are likely to affect their lives. Scenes show Barnstaples’s old buildings with their architectural features, traditional street names and their unique paving stones, and a typical antiques shop. Filmed in August 1994.
