Synopsis
Aims to link issues in science, technology, society and the environment, and begins with a 10-minute INSET segment. Looks at the unprecedented demand for energy in the industrialised world, and considers the pollution and depletion of world resources caused by the use of fossil fuels. Nuclear power, has a high cost, arouses widespread public opposition and leads to the problem of disposing of readoactive waste. Government planning and action will most likely be necessary to balances issues of safety, risk, economic, politics and attitude, and to develop alternative energy sources.
