Embryo Development

Synopsis
An animated diagram, based on a longitudinal section of an embryo, showing the sequence of changes during the process of flexion. The film starts with the embryo at the flat plate stage and shows the elongation and curvature of the neural tube, the incorporation of part of the yolk sac to form the primitive gut, and the reversal of the relative positons of the primitive diaphragm, heart, mouth and brain. Demonstrates the expansion of the amniotic cavity with obliteration of the extra-embryonic coelome and establishment of the definitive umbilical cord. Key structures are labelled, and the sequence of events is presented three times, with slowing of the movements on the second occasion.
