Electrochromic Devices

Synopsis
Electrochromic materials are characterised by a reversible colour change as a function of applied electric current and have many potential applications in a broad range of devices including smart windows and flat panel displays. Recently, new electrochromic devices based on molecular monolayers anchored on nanocrystalline semiconducting ceramics have been developed at EPFL, the Federal Polytechnic Institute in Lausanne, Switzerland. The EPFL has collaborated with scientists from universities and industry to create a new company, Nanomat, for promoting this new electrochromic technology.
