Election Witness 1945

Synopsis
Cartoonists Low, Strube, Shepard, Illingworth and Zec are represented. Domestic party conflict resumed quickly as the unity forged by the war broke down in 1945. Social issues including the housing shortage provided ammunition for the cartoonists. The Beveridge Report also formed the basis for much conjecture about the eventual face of British politics. In the absence of national television campaigning, the cartoonists instructed as well as criticised.
