El Salvador: Another Vietnam

Synopsis
Investigates the origins of the civil war in El Salvador and the involvement, historical and contemporary, of the USA. For fifty years, El Salvador was ruled by an oligarchy supported and effectively superseded by the military. Recounts the recent history of the various dictatorships that led to the coup d’etat of October 1979 and the electoral reform promised by the new junta. The eruption of full-scale war in the towns and the countryside is shown to involve American military/economic advisers. Interviews feature Napoleon Duarte, members of the Revolutionary Democratic Front (FDR), and the ‘official’ government positions of US President Reagan, Secretary of State Haig and two former ambassadors to El Salvador.
