Effects of Delayed Auditory Feedback on Normal and Deviant Rhesus Behaviour

Synopsis
Shows research on effects of delayed auditory feedback. Begins with demonstrations of effect on human subject’s reading aloud when his voice is fed back through ear-phones with a delay of a quarter of a second. Then a series of experiments is shown involving delayed auditory feedback to young rhesus monkeys, some of which are maternally and socially deprived while others are deprived. Animals are conditioned to vocalize for a prescribed period of time to illuminate series of lights sequentially. Animals are then subjected to delayed feedback of their auditory responses. Results are discussed in terms of unexpected feedback from an uncontrollable universe leading to apprehension or anxiety.
