- Looks at the life and work of Painter Edvard Munch from his birth in 1863 to the mental and physical breakdown he suffered in 1908 and sets his devleopment as a painter in the context first of his early life and emotional experience and later against the background of developments in the artistic and intellectual life of Europe. Examines many of the paintings in detail and includes readings from Munch’s own writing on his work. Focuses on the works that together make of the ‘frieze of life’, mMunch’s most important rogject on which he worked for almost 30 years.
