Ecological Design

Synopsis
Illuminates the emergence of ecological design in the 20th century, the work of R Buckminster Fuller in the 1920s, through the 1960s’ counter-culture, and on to contempory work. Follows the evolution of sustainable design from the visions of a few independent thinkers to the powerful movement it is becoming. The designers discuss their methods, metaphors, inspirations and commitment to a vision of a desirable future. Inventors, architects, city planners, energy experts, biochemists, anthropologists and futurists explore concepts of bioshelters, domed cities, living machines, ecological sites, and arcologies. The film interweaves ideas and artifacts, designers and history to present a tapestry of visions for the 21st century.
