Eclipse 73

Synopsis
The solar eclipse of 30 June 1973 was observed in Africa south of the Sahara. The film sets out the nature of the work involved in mounting an eclipse expedition both on the ground and in the air. The French mission carrying with it over twenty tons of advanced technological equipment including ultrasensitive electronic cameras, based itself at Atar in the Mauritanian desert with the Russian, Japanese, Dutch and Italian missions. The use of the supersonic aircraft Concorde 001, specially fitted out for the purpose, permitted for the first time the observation of an eclipse for 74 minutes.
