Early Days of Local Anaesthesia in Dentistry, The
- Synopsis
- Covers the history of anaesthesia from just after the turn of the century when it was introduced as an alternative to ether and chloroform. Before it could be used in dental surgery the basic principle for its administration had to be worked out. Among the surgeons who worked on these problems was Professor Guido Fischer of Marburg. In 1914 Professor Fischer made an instructional film, using a hand-operated camera, to show his injection technique before an operation. The film survives and is included supplemented by a commentary.
