Dying Patient, The: Trying to Tell

Synopsis
Five scenes about a woman with a history of progressive dysphagia and highly suggestive of malignant disease. Shows an initial consultation between the patient and her GP, a consultion with the surgeon following endoscopy, a visit by the patient to the GP, highlighting the problems of coping with anger and denial, a meeting between the patient’s husband and the district nurse, and a consultation between the GP and the bedridden patient at home when she is more able to accept her diagnosis and prognosis. Filmed with natural breaks for discussion on the problems of communicating bad news.
