Downbursts
- Synopsis
- Concentrates more on aviation than meteorology discussing the hazardous low-level wind shears associated with downdraughts from severe convective storms (downbursts). Describes flying techniques which enable pilots to cope with the problem. Aircraft performance and pilot reactions to the sudden wind changes are analysed, and flying techniques are tested in simulators.
