Dockers 1

Synopsis
Drama based on true events surrounding the Liverpool dockers’ dispute, which began in 1995, preceded by a documentary recounting of how a group of sacked Liverpool dockers joined with Jimmy McGovern and Irvine Welsh to write the drama, a unique experiment as McGovern guides the neophyte screenwriters through the craft, while the dockers relate to him their personal experiences. The schools broadcast is divided into five 30-minute segments: 1-2) The Creation of the Script (2 parts) (producer Eric Harwood, director Chris Rodley): follows the scriptwriting from the earliest ideas based on the dockers’ personal experiences through to the final script and its eventual production for Channel 4. Apart from offering a deep insight into the social justice and ethics of the dispute, the workshop shows the entire creative process from script to screen; 3-5) Dockers (3 parts) (producer Sally Hibbin, director Bill Anderson): the drama itself.
