Disscovering Ancient Greece
- Synopsis
- Explores the civilisation of Greece throughout the period 1500-100 BC. Live-action photography, combined with architectural reconstructions and ancient works of art are used to show Mycenae, site of the palace of Agamemnon, the ruins of the once great city-state of Corinth, and the great theatre and centre of medicine at Epidauros. Also illustrated are the ancient temples, gymnasium, and stadium at Olympia where the first Olympic Games were held in 776 BC. Religious sites at Delphi are shown, where for over 1000 years Oracles uttered prophesies that shaped the course of civilisation. Then shows ancient Athens and examines the conquests of Alexander the Great and the Roman occupation of Greece.
