Discharge Through Gases

Synopsis
Shows the discharge patterns which occur when pressure is progressively reduced, and explains the theory of discharge through rarefied gases. Animated diagrams explain stage by stage how light is produced by the displacement of electrons after collision with gas atoms in the tube. Changes in potential along the tube cause the familiar alternate bands of Crookes dark space, negative glow, Faraday dark space and positive column. Ends with photographs of some modern applications of the theory
