Dion Boucicault (1820-1890)

Synopsis
Irish actor and dramatist Dion Boucicault was one of the major providers of popular entertainment for the London and New York theatre of the 19th century. The touring productions of his long-run successes hastened the demise of the resident stock companies of actors, and his campaign to obtain better financial returns for dramatists opened the way to the modern system of royalties. He is best known today for his Irish dramas ‘The Shaughran’ and ‘The Colleen Bawn’.
