Differential Topology (3 Parts)

Synopsis
The three films in this series are telerecordings of Professor Milnor lecturing to the Mathematical Association of America. Professor Milnor, who is regarded as the father of modern differential topology, explains the principles of his subject at a time when he had just made major advances. In Part 1 he describes smooth mappings and manifolds, diffeomorphism and categories. He considers how a general topological problem can be viewed in four ways: piecewise linear topology, set theoretic or homeomorphic topology, homotopy theory and differential topology.
