Diamonds Kill Carbon
- Synopsis
- Introduces the many electronic, microtechnical and electrochemical devices that take advantage of the diamond’s transparency, hardness and chemical stability. The thin layers of boron doped diamond deposited on silicon wafers by specialists at the Swiss Centre for Electronics and Microtechnology (CSEM), Neuchtel, are used by electrochemists working at the Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL), Lausanne, for the treatment of organic pollutants or the recovery of heavy metals. The programme describes the preparation of diamond layers and the electrochemical engineering studies conducted with diamond electrodes in monopolar or bipolar reactors built for industrial applications.
