Desert Ecology

Synopsis
Filmed in 1984 at the Chihuahuan Desert field station at Mapimi in Northern Mexico in collaboration with members of the Institute of Ecology (Mexico). Shows the main features of the desert environment and examples of the survival strategies adopted by local plants and animals. Ecologists are seen working in the field and the laboratory on several animals including the small rodents, lizards, grasshoppers and the endemic giant Bolson tortoise, Gophesus flavomarginatus, which is unique to this small area and is on the endangered list of world animals.
