Demotax

Synopsis
DEMOTAX demonstrates the value of using a computer in numerical taxomony, for the following operations: 1) calculation of similarities from the student’s own data; 2) clustering of strains and associated sorting of the similarity matrix, a process which can be viewed step-wise, so that students can see what is happening); 3) drawing a dendrogram; and 4) selection of key tests that can distinguish groups of clustered strains. DEMOTAX requires a pre-recorded data file - student instructions for preparing this are available.
