Aircrash: The Burning Issue

Synopsis
Report on the need for improved safety features on aircraft, in particular the desirability of smoke hoods. Includes an interview with a survivor of the August 1985 Manchester Airport disaster in which 55 people died. Within seconds of the plane coming to its delayed halt, the cabin was so full of dense, poisonous smoke that no one could see or breathe without immediate danger of collapse and death from three different kinds of poisonous gas. Looks at the international issue of aircraft safety and addresses the question of what can be done to reduce the lethal consequences of aircraft fire.
