Death of a Princess

Synopsis
Ostensibly about the execution for adultery in 1977 of the Saudi Princess Mis’ahl, but the film became the subject of a major diplomatic row between Britain and Soudi Arabia. Its importance lies both in its relation to the political event and in its fusion of drama and documentary to interrogate the notion of documentary truth. Journalist Christopher Ryder hears that the princess deliberatey engineered her own execution as a gesture of defiance against her family and its regime, but as he investigates, conflicting accounts emerge. Did the princess seek her execution or did she try to escape? Had she been radicalised by contact with feminism, Arab politics and Western ideas?
