Deaf Whale, Dead Whale

Synopsis
The US Navy has released secret recordings of whales’ undersea sounds - a by-product of the Cold War hunt for Soviet submarines. The recordings reveal the acoustic abilities that whales and dolphins rely on to navigate and catch their prey. But a deaf whale is a dead whale and, unrecognised until now, noise pollution in the oceans from scientific experiments, navy explosions and world shipping may be threatening their survival.
