Cult, The

Synopsis
The 39 members of the Heaven’s Gate cult in San Diego, CA, whose bodies were found on 26 March 1997, all recorded their farewells on videotape and committed suicide by taking a fatal cocktail of drugs and alcohol. Four former cult members and a fifth who moved away from the main group while still sharing their beliefs, and members of bereaved families, provide an insight to the cult, whose members believed that they were to achieve higher life forms after killing themselves. Contains footage of the devotees’ farewell video with cult leader Marshall Applewhite.
