Cruel Inheritance, A

Synopsis
Looks at the medical and emotional problems caused by parents’ defective genes in families whose children suffer from conditions such as cystic fibrosis and sickle cell anaemia. Medical technology continues to give more options to prospective parents who risk passing on the disease, but they cannot chose the course that best suits them without adequate counselling and advice. As new techniques of molecular biology make it possible to detect more and more diseases before and during pregnancy, increasing numbers of parents will have to face the problems and decisions experienced by the families shown in the film.
