Cruel Choice, The

Synopsis
Questions whether animal experiments are essential. Professor Zbinden, Director of the Toxicology Unit of Zurich University, is developing more sensitive toxicology tests to replace LD50. The Fund for the Replacement of Animal Experiments (FRAME) is researching into a cell culture system that could be accepted as a substitute for animals, and yield reliable results. In the United States Dennis Stark and his team at Rockefeller University are searching for alternatives to the Draize test. Further research in America has made it possible to grow human cancer tumours in a test tube for the screening of potential anti-cancer drugs.
