Synopsis
The fundamentals of the mechanism of fracture are discussed in catastrophic as well as debased fractures, stiffness/compliance and stable and unstable cracking. Demonstrations are provided for both compression and pulling while television effects include split screens of the meter and the sample clearly shows the relationship of the crack and the effort required to produce it.
