Counselling and the Physically Disabled

Alternative title
Counselling and the Physically Handicapped
Synopsis
Four people talk about their disability: a woman who has had spina bifida all her life; a woman who has developed multiple sclerosis as an adult; a woman who was suddenly paralysed; and a man who lost both legs following an industrial accident. They explain how their disabilities affect their lives and what help they receive from hospital and social workers. The tape helps professional workers to understand clients’ crises of identity, low self-esteem, sexuality, loss of control, and fears for the future and questions whether disabled people are getting the sort of help they need.
