Coroner’s Office, The

Synopsis
CITY WATCH is a series of six films about Birmingham’s Environmental Services Department. Each film follows an individual or a group of environmental health officers and other officials on a ‘typical’ day as they try to protect the people of Birmingham from diseases, filth, fraud and unscrupulous landlords. They are responsible for food hygiene and infectious diseases, health and safety, environmental protection, coroner’s services, veterinary services, waste disposal, fraud and special investigation, motor vehicle investigation & fair trading. The film looks at the work of the coroner, who establishs the cause of sudden and unexplained death and arranges for an autopsy and police investigation where necessary. It is a job that requires sympathy, tact and descretion.
