Consumer Products

Synopsis
Support video for course T204, in three parts: 1) product evaluation from the consumer’s point of view. At the Consumer’s Association Research Laboratory the product controller demonstrates some of the tests used in evaluating food processors. The appropriateness and relevance of such tests are discussed; 2) the manufacturer’s point of view, looking at the introduction of a new vacuum cleaner by Electrolux and at a new CD player developed by a small British company, Arcam. In December 1990 Arcam was also in the early stages of designing a new cassette player; 3) product design from the designer’s viewpoint. It features designers from Electrolux and Arcam, who talk about the processes and procedures of creating a new product design.

Notes
NB. As of May 2016 Open University Worldwide are no longer distributing DVDs. They have posted this message on their website: ‘Unfortunately Open University Worldwide Limited has decided that product sales are no longer viable given the reduced funding to Higher Education institutions and diminishing demand for the products we have traditionally stocked. At present the Open University Students Association (OUSA) will continue to sell the "Good Study Guide", and we are in discussion with other possible distributors to continue to make The Open University’s products available for purchase. As soon as we have any information on other channels of distribution we will update this notice’. Some products are still available via second hand dealers on Amazon.co.uk
