Conquest of the Atom

Synopsis
Tells the story of the structure and splitting of the atom. Beginning in 1895 with the work of J J Thomson in the Cavendish Laboratory in Cambridge, which by 1897 was to disprove the conception of the atom as a minute solid, indivisible particle. Deals with the work of Rutherford which resulted in the first splitting of the nitrogen atom in 1919, and with the experimental work of Sir James Chadwick. Concludes with the harnessing of atomic power. Made with the assistance of the UK Atomic Energy Authority.*
