Condensation Polymers

Synopsis
Introduces the molecular structure, reaction mechanisms, physical properties and manufacture of condensation polymers, using computer animation to explain the molecular structures and processes. Covers: condensation polymerisation, using the formation of nylon as an example and showing how the monomers’ functional groups react together to form a link; the difference between addition and condensation polymerisation; how bonding between the polymer chains determines the properties of the plastic, showing how the dipole-dipole interactions of nylon allow it to have a high melting point; nylon 6,10, nylon 6,6 and Kevlar; polyester its formation, properties and uses; condensation polymers that are thermosetting, examines their stable covalent network lattice structure and looks at examples and their uses.
