Computers and Educational Technology

Synopsis
A broad view is taken of the role of computers as a learning resource and in managing learning. Sample dialogues are presented to illustrate the different styles and modes of computer assisted learning, artificial intelligence, computer-assisted instruction and computer-managed learning in a wide range of subject matter and level. Some are presented as printed dialogues with commentary, others on filmstrip with a taped commentary. The emphasis is on the ‘computer as laboratory’ rather than automated programmed learning or drill-and-practice. Current developments are summarised and future directions speculated on.
