Comparative Study of Antennal Communications in the Domestic Bee and Social Wasps
- Synopsis
- Shows how tactile signals govern the begging for, or the refusal of regurgitated food among workers in a bee or wasp society. The ritual acts of begging or refusal are progressively established after imaginal hatching. The males, the queen (bee society) and the foundress (wasp society) also have characterised behaviour in relation to their respective functions in their own society. A dummy device simulating the antennal signals allows a better understanding of some of the social rituals.
