After Chernobyl: Closer to Home
- Synopsis
- Looks at nuclear safety in the UK in the wake of the opinions of people about nuclear safety after the Chenobyl disaster asking if such an incident could happen here and if so, how emergency plans and services would cope. Uses as an example one of Britain’s latest nuclear plants - Hartlepool in Teesside, which is hemmed in by a huge petrochemical complex, and nearly a million people live in the vicinity. Yet Hartlepool has the smallest evacuation zone in the western world.
